On or about Saturday, July 24th, 2021, around 5:18 in the morning, a single-vehicle box truck accident sent two people to the hospital. Deputies from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along Route 1 at or near the intersection with Main Street in Saugus, Massachusetts.

Authorities from the area said two as-of-yet unidentified people were injured when the box truck they were in allegedly lost control and rolled near a CVS parking lot off Route 1 near the exchange with Main Street. Paramedics transported the driver and passenger in the box truck to a nearby hospital with serious injuries stemming from the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Route 1 runs north and south through the center of Saugus, which is situated about 11 miles north of downtown Boston.

Officers are still working to pion down the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
