Details:
On or about Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, around 10:00 in the morning, an accident between a dump truck and a passenger vehicle claimed the lives of two women. Troopers from the CSP said the accident was reported along State Highway 12 in Las Animas County, Colorado.
Officials from the Colorado State Patrol said an as-of-yet unidentified 60-year-old woman and an 85-year-old woman were killed when a dump truck allegedly struck their vehicle as they were attempting to make a U-turn on Highway 12. Emergency responders pronounced the 60-year-old driver of the vehicle dead of her injuries at the scene, while the passenger was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival. The 27-year-old driver of the dump truck was unhurt in the accident.
According to Google Maps, Las Animas County is in far south Colorado, sitting on the state line with New Mexico.
Police are still investigating the accident.
