On or about Friday, March 11th, 2022, around 1:30 in the morning, a major two-vehicle car accident left two people dead and sent one other individual to the hospital. Deputies from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at 5 Mile Road and Stewart Boulevard in Alton, Texas.
Spokespeople from the Texas Department of Public Safety said two as-of-yet unidentified individuals were killed and one other person was injured when two vehicles collided under unspecified circumstances at or near the intersection of 5 Mile Road and Stewart Boulevard. Emergency responders pronounced two people dead of their injuries, while a third person was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, Alton is a short distance northwest of downtown McAllen, not far from the border with Mexico.
Authorities are still working to pin down the cause of the collision.
