Two Killed in Accident with Flatbed Truck Hauling Rebar on I-75 in Ocala

On or about Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, around 8:28 in the morning, an accident between a minivan and a flatbed truck towing rebar left two people dead and sent a third to the hospital. Law enforcement spokespeople said the accident happened on the southbound side of Interstate 75 in Ocala, Florida.

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol said a minivan loaded with three people allegedly collided with lengths of rebar hanging of the back of a flatbed tractor-trailer. A 27-year-old man and a 80-year-old woman in the minivan died at the scene. Paramedics transported an 82-year-old man to the hospital with unknown injuries.

State Troopers closed down all the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Highway 27 in order to tend to the scene.

Police hope to release the findings of their investigation as soon as they become available.
