Details:
On or about Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, around 5:35 in the evening, an accident between a pickup truck and a van claimed the life of a 49-year-old woman and sent a 53-year-old man to the hospital. Authorities from the area said the accident was reported along Highway 271 just outside Gilmer in Upshur County, Texas.
Investigators said 49-year-old Verna Harris was killed when the pickup truck she was driving was allegedly struck from behind by a van driven by 53-year-old Brendan Durkin. Paramedics transported Harris to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after the collision. Emergency responders rushed Durkin to a different hospital where he was last reported in stable condition.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Gilmer, which is roughly 125 miles east of downtown Dallas.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
