On or about Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, around 6:00 in the evening, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck sent a 51-year-old Bronson woman and a 50-year-old Center man to the hospital. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along State Highway 103 near the intersection with Highway 96 in San Augustine County, Texas.
Investigators said 51-year-old Whitt Smith and 50-year-old Billy Thomas were injured when Smith’s pickup truck allegedly struck Thomas’s tractor-trailer as he was backing into a private driveway and blocked all the lanes of traffic. Paramedics airlifted Smith to Shreveport, Louisiana hospital, while Thomas was taken by ambulance to a hospital in San Augustine.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is situated in the southwest corner of San Augustine County, which is about 160 miles northeast of downtown Houston.
Police are still working to pin down the cause of the accident.
