Details:
On or about Saturday, July 31st, 2021, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 43-year-old truck driver. Officials from the VSP said the accident was reported along the northbound side of Interstate 81 in Wythe County, Virginia.
Police officers said 43-year-old William Peters was killed when the tractor-trailer he was driving allegedly drove off the northbound side of I-81 following a collision with an SUV. Peters was pronounced dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. The driver of the SUV was unhurt in the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in connection with the incident.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 81 runs north and south through the center of Wythe County, which is about 78 miles southwest of Roanoke.
Virginia State Police and local law enforcement assisted at the scene of the accident.
