On or about Thursday, November 26th, 2020, around 2:00 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car claimed the life of a 27-year-old Illinois resident. Troopers said the accident happened at the intersection of Old Trail Drive and Highway 41 in Naples, Florida.
Police said 27-year-old Zachary Plantz was killed when the Mercedes passenger vehicle he was driving allegedly collided with a tractor-trailer that was attempting a U-turn at the intersection. Plantz died of his injuries at the scene of the collision. Officials did not mention any other injuries stemming from the crash in their initial report.
Google Streetview shows Highway 41 is six lanes, with a curbed median dividing north and southbound traffic. Old Trail Drive appears to be two lanes that run east and west. The intersection is governed by a stoplight. Naples is located about 42 miles south of Fort Myers.
