On or about Friday, May 6th, 2022, around 8:30 at night, a major hit-and-run accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer left one individual dead. Troopers from the CHP said the accident was reported at the intersection of Niles Street and Fairfax Road in Bakersfield, California.
Authorities from the California Highway Patrol said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed when they were allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer as they were walking near or made an attempt to cross the lanes of traffic near Fairfax and Niles. After the initial accident, the tractor-trailer fled the scene. Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead a short time after the collision.
According to Google Maps, the intersection of Niles Street and Fairfax Road is on the east side of Bakersfield.
Officials are still looking for the driver and tractor-trailer that fled the scene.
