Texas Job Market Grows Faster in July 2021 than June
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reported that the unemployment rate for July 2021 fell from 6.5% to 6.2%, after the economy added 80,900 jobs. Job growth accelerated from 55,800 new jobs in June and a 13,000 jobs increase in May.
Once again, Amarillo recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 4%, while Austin and Sherman-Denison trailed with rates of 4.2% and 4.6%, respectively.
At the other end of the spectrum, the cities with the highest unemployment rates were McAllen, Beaumont, and Brownsville, at 10%, 9.8%, and 8.8%, respectively.
The Hospitality Industry led the way, with 20,600 new jobs, while Professional Service Jobs increased 11,500. Manufacturing jobs grew by 8,300. At the same time, there were 1,500 fewer construction jobs compared to June 2021.
