On or about Thursday, November 19th, 2020, around 3:50 in the afternoon, an accident between a car and a tractor-trailer left a 99-year-old Nebraska man dead. Authorities said the accident happened at the intersection of Highway 75 and Co Rd C-38 near Le Mars in Plymouth County, Iowa.
Investigators said 99-year-old Melvin Hanson was killed when his car allegedly veered over the center line of the roadway when it slammed into a tractor-trailer in the oncoming lanes. Paramedics pronounced Hanson dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. Hanson’s passenger, 64-year-old Kathy Yoder was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, Highway 75 runs is four lanes north and south, with a grassy median dividing the directions of traffic. Road C-38 runs east and west with two lanes, and has a stop sign at the intersection. The area is about 26 miles northeast of Sioux City.
Police expect to release the findings of their investigation as soon as they become available.
