On or about Monday, March 29th, 2021, around 2:35 in the afternoon, an accident between a car and a garbage truck sent one person to the hospital and left a truck driver with drunk driving charges. Troopers from the ISP said the accident happened along Highway 30 West near the intersection with Knapp Road in Linn County, Iowa.
Police said Gary Sams was injured when his car was allegedly struck from behind by a private garbage truck driven by Robert Truax. Paramedics transported Sams to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries stemming from the collision. No other injuries were reported by officials.
Authorities have since charged Robert Truax with Operating While Intoxicated and Failing to Stop. on suspicion of OWI and cited for Following too Closely in connection with the accident.
Multiple agencies are investigating the accident.
