Details:
On or about Monday, November 1st, 2021, around 12:13 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of an off-duty police officer. Troopers from the MSP said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 70 in Lisbon, Maryland.
Authorities said 50-year-old Daniel John Friz was killed when he was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer after he may have exited a vehicle on the side of I-70. Emergency responders pronounced Friz dead a short time after the incident, but it is not immediately clear if he died at the scene or if he succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital by EMS.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 70 cuts east and west through the center of Lisbon, which is about 30 miles west of downtown Baltimore.
Police are still examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
