Details:
On or about Saturday, December 11th, 2021, around 7:48 in the evening, an accident between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman. Deputies from the Starr County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 83 and FM 1430 in Garciasville, Texas.
Law enforcement spokespeople said 55-year-old Marcelina Alfaro Castillo was killed when she was allegedly struck by a vehicle as she was walking down or making an attempt to cross the street at the intersection of FM 1430 and Highway 83. The driver that struck Castillo fled the scene of the accident. Paramedics pronounced Castillo dead of her injuries after the accident, but it is not clear if she died at the scene or after being rushed to the hospital.
Police later tracked down the vehicle, and have since charged Yesenia Garza with hit-and-run in connection with the accident.
Officials are still investigating.
