Details:
On or about Saturday, January 1st, 2022, around 3:25 in the morning, a serious single-vehicle box truck accident left one man dead and sent another to the hospital. Investigators from the NCHP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Highway 64 in Statesville, North Carolina.
Deputies from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department said 71-year-old Charles Chambers was killed while 58-year-old Michael Ervin was injured when the box truck they were in allegedly veered off the side of Highway 64 and slammed into a tree a short distance off the pavement. Chambers, the passenger in the box truck, died of his injuries a short time after the accident, while Ervin, the driver, was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, Highway 64 winds east and west through Statesville, which is situated about 41 miles north of downtown Charlotte.
Officials are still investigating the accident.
