On or about Saturday, November 6th, 2021, around 3:25 in the morning, a single-vehicle box truck accident left a Statesville man dead and sent one other person to the hospital. Authorities from the NCHP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Highway 64 in Iredell County, North Carolina.
Officials from the North Carolina Highway Patrol said 71-year-old Charles Edward Chambers was killed when the box truck he was riding in allegedly drove off the side of Highway 64 and slammed into a tree a short distance off the pavement. Emergency responders pronounced Chambers dead after the accident, while the driver of the box truck was taken to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
According to Google Maps, Highway 64 runs east and west through the center of Iredell County, which is about 41 miles north of downtown Charlotte.
State and local law enforcement are investigating the accident.
