On or about Sunday, February 27th, 2022, around 12:01 in the morning, a single-vehicle accident with an alleged drunk driver let an 18-year-old man dead. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Farm-to-Market 2517 in Panola County, Texas.
Officials from the area said 18-year-old Devin Smith was killed when the passenger vehicle he was in allegedly drove off the side of the road and slammed into a tree a short distance off the pavement. Paramedics pronounced Smith dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Police identified the driver of the vehicle as 18-year-old Mitchell Williams, who was arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in connection with the accident.
According to Google Maps, Panola County is about 171 miles southeast of downtown Dallas.
Police are still investigating the accident.
