Details:
On or about Saturday, August 21st, 2021, around 3:11 in the morning, a tractor-trailer hit-and-run claimed the life of a 21-year-old Tucson man. Troopers from the ASP said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 10 just outside Vail in Pima County, Arizona.
Officials from the Arizona State Police said 21-year-old Frederick Alexander Hayes was killed when he was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer while he was assisting a disabled motorist on the westbound shoulder of Interstate 10. After the truck hit Hayes, it fled the scene of the accident. Paramedics pronounced Hayes dead of his injuries a short time after the accident, but it is not immediately clear if he died at the scene or succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 10 runs east and west through Pima County, with the scene of the accident situated about 25 miles southeast of Tucson.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the investigation.
