Details:
On or about Tuesday, January 12th, 2021, around 2:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a car and two tractor-trailers left a man and woman dead. Local police said the accident happened on the northbound side of the Maine Turnpike in York, Maine.
Police spokespeople said 68-year-old Geoffrey Gattis and 68-year-old Elizabeth Gattis were killed when their car was allegedly struck from behind by a tractor-trailer driven by David Herring. After the initial impact, the Gattis’ car was pushed into the back of a tractor-trailer driven by Lakhveer Gill. Both Geoffrey and Elizabeth Gattis died of their injuries a short time after the crash.
York is located about 44 miles south of downtown Portland, according to Google Maps. The Maine Turnpike runs north and south through the area.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene of the accident to aid in the investigation.
