Details:
On or about Monday, October 18th, 2021, around 10:30 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a cyclist claimed the life of an 85-year-old Appleton man. Deputies from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of East North Avenue and Freedom Road in Little Chute, Wisconsin.
Investigators said 85-year-old James Van Asten was killed when he was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer while he was riding his bike at or near the intersection of East North Avenue and Freedom Road. Paramedics rushed Van Asten to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after his arrival. Police did not mention any other injuries stemming from the accident.
According to Google Maps, Little Chute is situated about 24 miles south of downtown Green Bay.
Police are still working to pin down all the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
