Details:
On or about Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021, around 6:00 in the morning, an accident between a truck and a minivan left a 40-year-old man dead and sent two others to the hospital. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported in the 5300 block of South First Street in Abilene, Texas.
Texas DPS Troopers said a Honda Odyssey driven by 53-year-old Jean Paul Zihalirwa allegedly attempted to turn when it was struck broadside by a Toyota Tacoma. Emergency responders pronounced Zihalirwa dead at the scene of the accident. Paramedics transported a passenger in the Odyssey, identified as 40-year-old Mbirembano Mwamini, to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver of the Tacoma was also taken to the hospital after the accident.
According to Google Maps, the accident happened a short distance from the intersection with Highway 83, also known as the Winters Freeway.
Police are still investigating.
