Junes Sees Accelerating Texas Job Growth
According to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), in June, Texas gained 55,800 jobs. The increase was significantly larger than the 34,400 jobs created in May. As a result, the unemployment rate dropped from 6.6% in May to 6.5% in June.
Amarillo had the lowest unemployment rate in the state, at 4.5%, followed by Austin (4.8%) and Sherman (5.3%). McAllen (10.8%), Beaumont (10.5%), and Brownsville (9.8%) had the highest rates of unemployment in the state.
The biggest sector increase came in Leisure and Hospitality, with 19,000 added jobs, followed by Professional and Business Services with 13,200 new jobs. Construction work saw a modest decline of 3,300 jobs.
It’s important to remember that TWC will likely revise these numbers in the future.
