On or about Monday, September 6th, 2021, around 10:20 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy from Seneca. Troopers from the KSP said the accident was reported at or near the intersection of Q Road and 112th in Nemaha County, Kansas.
Investigators from the area said 16-year-old Lawson Schmelzle was killed when his pickup truck allegedly veered over the center line of the road and struck the trailer of an 18-wheeler. After the initial collision, Schmelzle’s pickup truck crashed into a ditch a short distance off the pavement. Emergency responders pronounced Schmelzle dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is situated about 121 miles northwest of Kansas City.
Authorities are still trying to piece together what happened in the crash.
