On or about Friday, November 12th, 2021, around 3:39 in the afternoon, an accident between a school bus and a passenger sent one person to the hospital. Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of Grant Road and 12th Street in Carroll, Iowa.
Officials said 57-year-old Lon Denis Leiting was injured when a school bus allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of Grant Road and 12th Street and struck Leiting’s Honda Element. Leiting was taken to a nearby hospital by a private vehicle following the accident. Officials identified the driver of the school bus as Paul Richard Dern, who was cited for failure to obey a stop or yield sign in connection with the accident.
According to Google Maps, Carroll is about 99 miles northwest of Des Moines.
Police are still investigating the accident.
