On or about Sunday, January 9th, 2022, around 10:05 at night, a major pileup accident between four tractor-trailers sent one individual to the hospital. Troopers from the MSHP said the accident was reported on the eastbound side of Interstate 44 near Downstream Boulevard in Joplin, Missouri.
Spokespeople from the Missouri State Highway Patrol said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was injured when four tractor-trailers collided in a chain-reaction accident along eastbound I-44. After the initial collision, at least one of the tractor-trailers burst into flames. Officials did not specify what may have started off the accident. Paramedics transported one of the truck drivers to the hospital with life-threatening injuries stemming from the accident.
According to Google Maps, the exchange of Downstream Boulevard and Interstate 44 is on the far southwest side of Joplin.
Multiple agencies from the surrounding areas responded to the scene of the accident to assist.
