On or about Tuesday, December 21st, 2021, around 8:30 at night, an accident with an alleged drunk driver claimed the life of a 2-year-old child and sent three other people to the hospital. Deputies from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported along Interstate 20 near the exchange with Highway 360 in Arlington, Texas.
Law enforcement spokespeople said an as-of-yet unidentified 2-year-old girl was killed and three other people were injured when a Mazda MX5 SUV allegedly changed lanes and struck the Toyota Tundra they were riding in while driving down I-20. After the initial collision, the Tundra pickup truck veered off the side of the road and rolled when it struck a barrier a short distance out of the lane. Paramedics rushed the occupants of the Tundra to a nearby hospital where the 2-year-old succumbed to her injuries two days after her arrival.
Police have since identified the driver of the Mazda MX5 SUV as Tyler Hampton, who currently faces intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault charges in connection with the accident.
Officials are still investigating the incident.
