On or about Friday, January 22nd, 2021, around 4:49 in the morning, a hit-and-run accident between a car and a tractor-trailer left a 70-year-old man dead. Authorities said the accident happened on the northbound side of Interstate 70 in Benton, Illinois.
Troopers from the Illinois State Police said 70-year-old James J. Bean was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly rear-ended his car. After the initial collision, the tractor-trailer left the scene. Paramedics pronounced Bean dead of his injuries a short time after they arrived.
Interstate 57 runs north and south through Benton, according to Google Maps. Benton is located about 299 miles south of Chicago.
Multiple agencies are still looking for the tractor-trailer.
