Details:
On or about Monday, December 14th, 2020, around 8:00 in the morning, an accident between an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck left a 6-year-old boy dead, and sent a woman and another child to the hospital. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened along Highway 237 near Hinze Road just outside Carmine, Texas.
Department of Public Safety Troopers said Vanessa Rodriguez-Herrera was driving a pickup truck that allegedly struck the back of an 18-wheeler that had stopped just beyond the crest of a hill. Jerry Lane Zurita was a passenger in the pickup truck died after being rushed to nearby St. Marks’s Hospital. Rodriguez-Herrera and 9-year-old Kaden Hernandez were taken to St. Joseph Hospital with unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, Carmine is situated in Fayette County, about 70 miles west of Austin.
Texas DPS are investigating the accident.
