    Reported Injuries/Fatalities:

    Details:

On or about Wednesday, October 14th, around 1:45 in the afternoon, an accident between a delivery van and a pickup truck left a 51-year-old Luverne resident seriously hurt. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 9 and Fir Avenue just outside Rock Rapids in Lyon County, Iowa.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office said that 51-year-old Juan Ramon Gonzalez was injured when the Ford pickup truck he was driving on Highway 9 was hit by a Spee-Dee delivery van that allegedly failed to yield at the intersection with Fir Avenue. Paramedics transported Gonzalez to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital for treatment. Gonzalez was cited with failure to provide proof of financial liability and operation of a motor vehicle with an expired license after the crash.

The driver of the delivery van was identified as 57-year-old Jacquez Montel Johnson, who did not report injuries following the crash. Police have cited Johnson with failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way in connection with the accident.

An examination of the intersection where the accident happened on Google Maps shows that Highway 9 (150th Street) is two lanes, and runs east and west through Rock Rapids. Fir Avenue appears to be a dirt road that runs north and south, with a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 9.

Authorities are still working to piece together the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
