Details:
On or about Monday, March 8th, 2021, an accident between a disconnected trailer and two other vehicles left a 49-year-old woman dead and sent a 42-year-old woman to the hospital. Officials from the DPS said the accident happened across the north and southbound lanes of Toll 49 in Smith County, Texas.
Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers said Steven Frederick Elgin was driving an 18-wheeler southbound when the trailer allegedly disconnected from the truck and crossed into the northbound lanes. The trailer slammed into a Toyota Tundra driven by 49-year-old Kelly Michelle Hall and a Land Rover driven by 42-year-old April Michelle Files. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, while Files was taken to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital with unknown injuries.
Eglin did not report injuries after the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Tyler, which is situated in the center of Smith County.
Police are still investigating.
