Details:
On or about Sunday, April 24th, 2022, around 1:30 in the morning, an accident with an alleged drunk driver and a pedestrian left an 18-year-old woman dead. Representatives from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along State Highway 64 in Smith County, Texas.
Law enforcement representatives said 18-year-old Marissa July-McCuin was killed when she was allegedly hit by a vehicle as she was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of Highway 64. Paramedics pronounced Marissa July-McCuin dead of her injuries a short time after they responded to the accident.
Police have since identified the driver of the vehicle as 30-year-old Justin Pierce, who has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the incident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance west of Tyler.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
