On or about Friday, October 9th, 2020, around 6:45 in the morning, a box truck accident claimed the life of a pedestrian and resulted in charges for the driver. The accident happened on Penny Road in Cary, North Carolina.
Police say that 65-year-old Nancy Mallian was killed when she was hit by a passing box truck while walking her dogs on Penny Road near the intersection with Kildaire Farm Road. One of the dogs was also killed. The box truck subsequently left the scene of the accident.
Officials said that Mallian was wearing a reflective vest at the time of the incident.
A review of Google Maps shows that Penny Road is six lanes wide, which runs east and west through a semi-residential wooded area. The intersection with Kildaire Farm Road, which runs north and south, is governed by a stoplight.
Police have since charged the driver of the box truck, identified as 54-year-old Bert Ramos with misdemeanor death by vehicle and felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death in connection with the accident.
Authorities are still examining the factors surrounding the accident.
