On or about Tuesday, December 2nd, 2020, around 7:15 in the evening, an accident between a FedEx truck and an 18-wheeler sent one man to the hospital. State Patrol representatives said the accident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Bristol, Virginia.
Authorities from the area said an as-of-yet unidentified 28-year-old man was injured when the FedEx tractor-trailer he was driving allegedly rear-ended another 18-wheeler. The FedEx truck rolled and burst into flames following the initial collision. Paramedics freed the driver of the FedEx truck from the wreckage before he was airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Examining I-81 on Google Maps shows a four lane major highway, with a concrete barrier and a grassy median dividing north and southbound traffic. Bristol is located about 112 miles northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Virginia State Police was assisted by local agencies at the scene.
