Details:
On or about Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021, around 8:20 in the evening, an accident between a box truck and a tractor-trailer left one person dead and sent another to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities from the area said the accident happened along Highway 1 in Summerland Key, Florida.
Investigators said a tractor-trailer allegedly backed across Highway 1 when it was hit by a box truck. The driver of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.
Officials said the tractor-trailer violated the box truck’s right-of-way.
Highway 1 is two lanes, with a shared turn lane dividing east and westbound traffic. Summerland Key is about 142 miles southwest of Miami, according to Google Maps.
Florida Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
