On or about Saturday, November 27th, 2021, around 11:15 at night, a major accident between a tractor-trailer and an SUV left one individual dead and sent two other people to the hospital. Investigators said the accident was reported in the 7000 block of Highway 49 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Law enforcement spokespeople from the area said one as-of-yet unidentified individual was killed and two others were injured when the SUV they were in and a tractor-trailer collided unspecified circumstances while driving along the northbound side of Highway 49. Emergency responders pronounced one person in the SUV dead after the accident, while paramedics transported two other occupants to the hospital with injuries of an unknown nature or severity.
According to Google Maps, Highway 49 runs north and south through the center of Hattiesburg, which is about 90 miles southeast of Jackson.
Police are still working to pin down exactly what happened in the accident.
