Details:
On or about Wednesday, February 24th, 2021, around 1:04 in the morning, an accident between a car and an alleged DUI truck driver left one man dead and sent a woman to the hospital. Representatives from the VSP said the accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 58A in Norton, Virginia.
Virginia State Police Troopers said a tractor-trailer driven by 30-year-old Travis Toliver was allegedly going north in the southbound lanes when it struck a Chevrolet Cruze driven by 20-year-old Amanda Pearson. A passenger in the Cruze was identified as 22-year-old Perry Owens, who died of his injuries a short time after the collision. Pearson was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities have since charged 30-year-old Travis Tolivar with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs in connection with the accident.
Virginia State Police are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
