On or about Monday, November 30th, 2020, around 4:00 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car parked on the shoulder claimed the life of a 49-year-old man from Independence. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened on Highway 17 near the exchange with Highway 13 in Henry County, Missouri.
State Troopers said 49-year-old Raymond Conners was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly struck a Subaru Outback that was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The Subaru was subsequently pushed into Conners, who was standing nearby. Conners was pronounced dead of his injuries at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Examining the area on Google Streetview shows Highway 7 is four lanes that run east and west, with grassy patches on either side of the roadway. The scene of the accident is located about 76 miles southeast of Kansas City.
Police hope to release more information when it becomes available.
