On or about Monday, October 5th, 2020, three people were killed and a third was injured when a segment of stairwell between thirteen and fifteen floors collapsed unexpectedly at a construction site in Houston, Texas.
At this time, officials have not indicated what may have led to the collapse, only that three people were killed, and that the structure was currently too unstable to retrieve the victims from the rubble.
Investigators did not state what they think caused the collapse. Was the concrete not properly settled? Did unusually high winds bring it down? Did something like a construction vehicle hit it?
