On or about Wednesday, January 20th, 2021, around 5:23 in the afternoon, an accident between two 18-wheelers and two cars left two people dead. Officials from VDOT said the accident was reported on the southbound side of Interstate 81 in Roanoke County, Virginia.
Virginia State Police representatives said two as-of-yet unidentified people were killed when two tractor-trailers, a Chevrolet Impala, and a Hyundai passenger vehicle collided under unknown circumstances in the southbound lanes. The driver of the Chevrolet Impala and the driver of the Hyundai were both pronounced dead of their injuries a short time after the accident.
Authorities said charges were pending in connection with the accident, but did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged infractions.
Department of Transportation officials closed several lanes of Interstate 81 in order to investigate the accident.
