On or about Wednesday, January 6th, 2021, an accident between a car and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 28-year-old Carmi woman. Authorities said the accident was reported at the intersection of Route 13 and Commercial Street in Harrisburg, Illinois.
Illinois State Police said 28-year-old Whitney McKenzie was killed when her car was allegedly hit by an 18-wheeler while turning onto Commercial Street from Route 13. Paramedics pronounced McKenzie dead of her injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer reportedly refused medical attention after the crash.
According to Google Streetview, the intersection of Route 13 and Commercial Street is controlled by a stoplight. Commercial Street is four lanes that run north and south, while Route 13 is six lanes that run east and west.
Officials hope to release the findings of their investigation at a later date.
